DEVELOPED BY ENGINEERS AT HANS FØLSGAARD
A core principle in product development is listening to customer needs. The new HF Cable Coiler has been developed by engineers in Hans Følsgaard’s own container department, based on information and collaboration with stakeholders in the industry.
The HF Cable Coiler, which Hans Følsgaard showcased at Intermodal 2022, is designed to coil cables from stacked reefer containers, e.g., during loading and unloading of container ships. The telescopic design allows it to reach up to the height of four containers. The carbon fiber construction provides strength while keeping the product lightweight and easy to operate.
The problem statement that initiated the development was that cables on reefer containers often hang loosely and are not stored in the designated cable tray. Crew on board ships will often roll up the cable from the lowest container only and tie knots on the hanging cables from the upper containers. This means all upper cables hang loosely along the side of the reefer containers.
Loose cables can cause several issues during container handling, such as cable breakage if pinched, personal injury from hanging plugs, and potential damage to goods if the container swings uncontrollably.
With the development of the HF Cable Coiler, Følsgaard has helped increase safety and productivity, reduce cable repair costs, and improve workflow during the handling of reefer containers.
