Følsgaard provides fiber cables for the Oktoberfest
On September 21, 2024, the Munich Oktoberfest will start on the Theresienwiese with the traditional call "O'zapft is".
The 189th Wiesn begins with a procession of the innkeepers from 10.45 a.m., accompanied by music bands and festival carriages.
At 12 noon, Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter will officially open the festival with the tapping.
To hold on to all this, we need reliable cabling and a stable network. GLH was responsible for parts of the project, and thanks to their great team on site as well as some sleepless nights, the cable is now laid. Our HFiberCORE with 96 fibers was blown over many kilometers. The connection includes four large tents, starting at the entrance at the "Brausebadinsel" and leading to the "Oide Wiesn".
Bayerischer Rundfunk will broadcast the entry of the Wiesn hosts and the tapping live from 11 a.m., as will ARD from 11.15 a.m.
In addition, there will be livestreams and lots of information about what is probably the largest folk festival in the world.
In addition to the 500,000 chickens and 7,800,000 liters of beer*, data usage is also increasing year after year. A new record is expected for Wiesn 24
During the first Oktoberfest after a two-year Corona break, users transferred a whopping 465 terabytes. That's about as much data as is generated when transferring 465,000 hours of film. Due to the concentrated demand for data in a confined space, the network operators are placing extra mobile phone masts on Munich's Theresienwiese and hanging antennas in the tents. **
We look back on a successful collaboration and look forward to continuing it in future projects – supported by the quality of our products.
