Engineering at its best
You get Vermilion Racing – and engineering at its best.
Følsgaard is proud to support Vermilion Racing, DTU’s student-driven Formula Student team. Here, students from different fields of study work together to design, engineer, manufacture and continuously improve a fully electric Formula Student race car.
For us, the partnership is about much more than motorsport. It is about engineering, innovation and developing the technical talent of tomorrow.
From an idea to a race car
Formula Student is one of the world’s leading educational engineering competitions. The challenge is demanding: create a team, develop a concept and build a competitive single-seater race car from scratch.
And performance on the track is only part of the challenge.
Teams are evaluated in both static and dynamic disciplines. Engineering design, cost and manufacturing, and business planning are assessed alongside acceleration, skid pad, sprint and endurance/efficiency events.
It means that building a fast car is not enough. Every technical decision has to work as part of a complete system.
50 students. 10+ fields of study. 14 nationalities. One car.
Vermilion Racing brings together around 50 active members from more than 10 different fields of study and 14 nationalities.
Mechanical engineering, electronics, software, project management and many other disciplines have to come together around one common objective.
The students do not simply inherit a finished solution. Every year, the team develops a new car with significant technical changes. Decisions have to be prioritised, budgets considered, risks assessed and solutions tested. And because real engineering also involves things not going according to plan, the team actively prepares for failure, learns from mistakes and improves the next solution.
That combination of technical expertise, curiosity, collaboration and problem-solving is something we recognise very well at Følsgaard.
Turning theory into real-world engineering
Formula Student gives students something that cannot be learned from textbooks alone.
They experience the complete engineering process: from an initial idea and technical calculations to component selection, design, manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting and finally a functioning vehicle.
At the same time, they learn to work across disciplines, manage projects, make decisions under pressure and transfer knowledge from one generation of students to the next.
In other words, they learn to turn technical knowledge into solutions that work in the real world.
And that is exactly why Vermilion Racing is relevant to Følsgaard.
Why Følsgaard supports Vermilion Racing
At Følsgaard, we work with technology every day – but technology only creates value when knowledge, components and engineering are brought together to solve a real challenge.
Vermilion Racing shares that mindset.
The team experiments. They challenge existing solutions. They make decisions. They test them. Sometimes they fail. Then they learn, improve and try again.
We are proud to support an environment where young engineers are encouraged to do exactly that – and where the next generation gets the opportunity to turn ambitious ideas into tangible engineering.
The partnership also creates opportunities for our technologies and products to become part of future car development. Vermilion Racing's ambition is to build a new car every season, while continuing to inspire future engineering students and challenge technical boundaries.
From DTU to Silverstone
The ultimate test comes when Vermilion Racing takes its engineering from the workshop to the racetrack and competes against university teams from around the world in Formula Student.
But regardless of lap times, the real achievement is already visible:
Students become engineers. Ideas become solutions. Theory becomes reality.
For Følsgaard, that makes Vermilion Racing much more than a sponsorship.
It is engineering at its best – and an investment in the engineers, ideas and technologies that will shape the future.
